L. James DeConnick, Fire Chief

Jim DeConnick has been Chief of the Mifflin Township – Division
of Fire – since October 1999. The Mifflin Township Board of Trustees
initially hired Jim as a full-time firefighter in October 1974. He was in the
Department’s first paramedic training class in 1975, served as the Department’s
first Emergency Medical Services Coordinator, and continued as a paramedic
for 25 years.
Chief DeConnick holds an Associate Degree in Fire Technical Services from
Hocking College, Nelsonville OH and served as a paramedic instructor with Columbus
State Community College (formerly Columbus Technical Institute) in Columbus
OH for 11 years.
Chief DeConnick is a Gahanna native, graduating from Gahanna-Lincoln High
School in 1969. He and his wife Karen have four children—Kristin, Beth,
Ryan and Kyle. His parents were former members of the Mifflin Township – Division
of Fire. His father, Leo Joseph DeConnick, was a former Volunteer Fire Chief
and his mother, Velma DeConnick, was an Emergency Phone Operator.
